I have had the opportunity to intern at Chicago's Music Garage all summer, where I worked with the wonderful musicians and staff at this rehearsal space. Throughout this process I have learned that I want to pursue the music business more than ever. I have also performed at festivals in Illinois with Rick King's Royal Hustle, The Smiley Tillmon Band, and Serendipity. I created a Music Monday section for my social media to post more original music as well. I am a part of DePaul University's Jazz Ensemble and two jazz combos. I currently have two residencies with Rick King's Royal Hustle at Taylor Street Tap every Sunday and The Front Room every Thursday.
I had an amazing time playing with Rick King's Royal Hustle at the 2019 Chicago Blues Festival! The festival was filled with musicians and fans from all around the world and I was very thankful to be a part of it! I also got the chance to hang out with Buddy Guy at his Birthday Bash and play there to open up for Toronzo Cannon! I have also started up a segment called Music Mondays where I will post a new video every Monday of something original, a cover, or anything else that is musical! I love being a part of the Chicago summer scene!
What a past crazy couple of months it has been! I have had the pleasure of doing shows with Rick King's Royal Hustle and The Smiley Tillmon band while going through all of my jazz courses at DePaul University. I was a part of the Grammy U Showcase at Reggie's Rock Club and had my Junior Recital for my college. Learning these jazz tunes has been a blast!
Over the month of March I have had the pleasure of playing with the Smiley Tillmon Band by filling in for Kate Moss on numerous occasions at venues such at Smoke Daddy and Hailstorm Brewing Company. They sure know how to groove! I have also had concerts with DePaul University involving the Jazz Combos and African Drum Ensemble and a great time playing with my classmates. The weekly residency at Taylor Street Tap with Rick King's Royal Hustle still lives on every Sunday and keeps getting bigger and bigger!
I had the time of my life being a seat filler at the 2019 Grammy's! I received the opportunity to sit within the first twenty rows for the majority of the show. This musical event showcase so much talent and really inspired to to continue pursuing the music business. Later in the month I got the change to play at the Pinetop Perkins's Fundraiser in Ohio to raise money for kids to go to the Pinetop Perkins's Workshop (where I will be assistant teaching over the summer). I am super thankful to be a part of the music community and to help these kids pursue their passion in music.
